Munich Part 1

We've been spending a lot time in train stations. Here is a typical scene of me (us) waiting for a train with our bags.
We were met at the Munich main station by our dear friend, Jutta, and we took a bus to her neighborhood, which was not far. She lives in Pasing, for those of you who like to know such things. :-)
The next day we went into town and walked around, looking at the buildings and shops. Munich is the capital of Bavaria and had kings in the past, so we saw the palace in the middle of town, and many interesting old building.
There are many buildings which survived or were restored after the war, and also many new buildings. This is a strong Catholic area, so the big old churches are all Catholic.
This is the summer palace and is a ten minute bike ride from Jutta's house in Pasing. This picture shows the back of the castle. We didn't have time to see the front.

Jutta took us bike riding and it was really good for me to get on a bike before getting to Holland! I found that I could stay up, but it took me a while to get back my 'body balance' and be less wobbly. Starting and stopping is still a little tricky, but it may be different with a different adjustment of the bike. One day we rode 10 km. to a lake and back, and that was really nice!
Here is not such a good picture of our hosts as we had dinner in their home. Brian and Jutta were so gracious and hospitable!
Here is a bakery in the train station. I have to say that breads and pastries in Switzerland and Germany are an art form!
This is an old church in one of the main plazas in Munich and it is famous for the bell tower and the glockenspiel. It has the little people that come out and go around whenever the clock strikes the hour.
I really liked this playful statue near the west gate. This was a walking-only street that was like a mall with many shops and upscale boutiques.
This was also in the area of the gate.
And here is the gate itself. There are four gates in the city palace area and they are named for the four points of the compass.
We went to the street market in the Marian Strasse, and on the street to one side is a 'schmaltz nudel' place that makes something like a doughnut, but much nicer! Here we are having that with some coffee. We went there again when we went into town on our own!
