Well, I am having trouble getting these in the right order, so bear with me. This picture (above) is behind the canopy where the Pope says the Mass. The bright circle window has a dove in the middle which is not visible in this picture.
There were many huge statues, here are two.
St. Peter's is the final resting place of most (if not all) of the Popes, so there are many paintings, statues and carvings of the Popes, in fact I think there are more of Popes than of Biblical figures.
Here is a picture of St. Peter's, taken as we walked away from it, going to the Sistine Chapel. It is unbelievably big, and full of people from every country in the world, taking pictures.
This is the canopy built over Peter's grave. It is behind the altar where the Pope says the mass, right in the middle of everything. There are a number of chapels off to the sides.
This is one everyone knows, the Pieta, by Michelangelo. It is behind glass.
This give a little idea of how big the place is. This shot was not taken at the front door, but about 50 yards inside. The barricade is protecting the floor down the center. You can see that canopy and altar in the distance.
