We used our Roma Pass and took a bus to near the Colosseum, wandered around a bit and then found it. It is huge, but down around a corner and not on the horizon. Here it is as we first saw it!
Inside are these massive columns. I couldn't help but think how much Luke, Peter, Amanda, Philip and Abby would enjoy climbing these! They look like they were made for wall climbers.
Here we have a view from the second level, down into the area which was actually under the colosseum floor. These halls were where the animals and people were kept. The guide book said that at one point, this area was overgrown with exotic plants brought in by the animals imported from all over the world for the games.

Here is some sort of Roman poster... Not sure what it is announcing or proclaiming.
There were a lot of columns and other pieces laying around, including these marble capitals. It is amazing to think that the Apostle Paul may have been here and could have even seen the things we were looking at.
Here is another view from the outside, as we left the Colosseum area and headed towards the Roman Forum.

Happy Birthday, Lu! What a nice way to spend your big day. Thanks again for the next installments of your Roman holiday. So interesting and beautiful.
Kinda fun to imagine what this place must have been like back when it was in use - what types of people walked the paths, etc.
