We took what sure looked on the map like the right road to get to the Roman Forum. It was up a steep hill, and we could see people in what looked like the forum on the other side of the fence, but we figured the gate must be at the top. It wasn't. Turns out we took the stations of the cross road and ended up at a small chapel and a dead end! Ack! All that up hill for nothing! But wait, I did take a few artsy-smartsy pictures along the way...

If only this gate were open, we would be there by now! Sigh. So, back down the hill we went, and asked again... Oh. Around back where we ate lunch and on a little further. Okay, here we are: Foro Romano!
This ruin below looks like a prison. I wonder if Paul stayed here.
Okay, I'll confess. Ed went ahead and took the next pictures of the forum, which was amazingly big and had a LOT of steps and hills to climb. I waited ever so patiently resting my feet near the exit. Enjoy!
This arch was just outside the Forum area. Amazingly well preserved!
This is a panel on the inside of the arch in the picture above. The arch was built by Titus and commemorates victories by Rome, and in this panel you can see that this is about the defeat of Jerusalem.
Here is Ed, taking a well deserved rest on some Roman steps.
After this, we found our bus and headed for the apartment. Ed went out and bought our tickets to Milan for tomorrow, and then we went out for gelato in honor of my birthday! Gelato is great stuff!

Wow! My heart aches for a good excursion after reading through all your posts on Rome. It really does make us very happy to think of you two enjoying time for yourselves, not helping anybody else, but having a real vacation. And, yes, you look great in your new do. Looking forward to seeing you here in the Northwest later this summer, perhaps. Bon Voyage!
